The St Vincent de Paul Society and the Jesuit Refugee Service have published a Campaign Toolkit on the Nationality and Borders Bill as an essential resource for Catholic communities across the country working to achieve social justice. The toolkit provides a summary of the Nationality and Borders Bill (currently going through Parliament) as well as practical actions people can take to campaign on it. It says the Bill would make it as difficult as possible to get asylum in the UK. “If this bill becomes law, thousands of people forced to flee their homes and in need of safe haven will not be able to find safety and security in the UK,” it says. “The Bill would deny many refugees the chance to seek sanctuary in the UK, criminalise many of those who try, isolate refugees in harmful out-of-town institutions, and undermine 70 years of international co-operation under the UN Refugee Convention.”
The toolkit details eight things you should know about the Nationality and Borders Bill and actions you can take to change it, including four ways to advocate for refugees.
Both versions are available on its website.
