Mary’s Meals is a charity with a solution to poverty that works! Named after Mary the mother of Jesus, the charity provide a nourishing daily meal to over 1.3 million of the world’s poorest children every school day. Because the children are not hungry they can concentrate on their lessons and education is a route out of poverty. School + Food = Hope. Although the majority of the children receiving Mary’s Meals are educated in a school, for others their classroom is a small space on a railway platform; under a tree; or in a tent and other places. But for the children in Madagascar their classroom is in prison! They are there not because they have committed a crime but because their mothers have been sent to prison and there was no one else to look after them.
The main focus of Mary’s Meals is the school feeding programme but they also respond to humanitarian crisis throughout the world. They respond to people of all faiths and none helping people to rebuild their lives.
A donation of £13.90 will feed a child for a school year. Out of every £1 collected at least 93% is spent on their charitable activities.
“I was hungry and you fed me, thirsty and you gave me a drink;
I was a stranger and you received me into your homes,
naked and you clothed me; I was sick and you took care of me;
in prison and you visited me.”
— Matthew 25:35-36
